Mumbai Attacked

These new attacks on Mumbai the financial centre of India need to be roundly condemned for what they are and what they aim to achieve. The goal is simple. Take control of the ordinary citizen who has neither the ambition nor desire to stray anywhere near politics or the creatures that infest those corridors. More words need to be written about polity but not today, today is a day when all ‘normal’ people and especially Muslims should voice their condemnation of terror in all its forms.

Could a Muslim ever condone a wanton act of terror?

There are some who say one act of terror begets another. Is this a rule and if so who formulated it? An eye for an eye they explain and have the audacity to quote the honourable Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him).

Let us examine their claim – One painful incident during the life of the Prophet (pbuh) was when members of a certain tribe arrived at the Prophet’s mosque in Medina wanting instruction in Islam claiming their entire tribe intended to convert to the faith.
They requested the Prophet (pbuh) to send some of his learned companions so they could be instructed in matters of faith. The Prophet (pbuh) deputed a contingent of 70 learned men – some of his closest companions and relatives to accompany these people to their land. But there was a sinister plot behind this group of tribals. After travelling some distance they waylaid the innocent and unarmed companions of the Prophet and massacred them. History is witness to the action by the Holy Prophet (pbuh) when he sent an army to nab the perpetrators of the crime; did he retaliate and order the tribe to be massacred wholesale to wreak vengeance for his companions? No! only the guilty were brought to book. This was the example of the Prophet of Islam (pbuh).

If indeed these murderers who took the streets of Mumbai for a few days were Muslim then who is it they follow, who is their guide?
Now I am the first to agree that Muslims have been unjustly wronged around the world but does that make the common man halaal game, is it open season on innocents – men, women and children.

I’d like to meet a mulla who says this wanton destruction carried out by these anarchists these so called ‘mujahideen’ around the globe is how the prophet of Islam (pbuh) would have retaliated for the lay-Muslim? Never.

The Prophet (pbuh) stated that the fire of hell will be kindled using false mujahideen. Any man who desires the glory of the fidayeen should take a hard look at this sahih hadith.

For the record if I do meet such a mulla I will personally wring his neck.

There is only ONE type of Muslim

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious Most Merciful.

Much debate has raged over the past few years in the media and the general public to find a suitable answer that explains the Muslim psyche. Categorisations such as ‘moderate’ and ‘radical’ have made their appearance. So called Muslim writers and intellectuals have joined the fray pointing to the various sects among the Muslims identifying some as radical and some as the moderate, flinging accusations this way and that.

The Sufis have claimed their place among the so called moderates with their singing and whirling ways, the Deobandis are trying a balancing act with their Taliban style shariat and illogical verdicts in cases such as Imrana’s. The Barelvis have their backs to the wall what with their erstwhile followers and emptying ranks now turning to modern education.

Each of these groups and others of their ilk have laid claim to be the flag bearers of Islam. The time is upon the learned Muslim who seeks the guidance of Allah to analyse these issues or will we still continue to hold that ignorance is bliss?

The truth is - that there was, is and will be only ONE type of Muslim and we all know the truth always prevails.

Who is this Muslim and what is his type?

The only type of Muslim is the type that holds firm to the rope of the Apostle of Allah SAWS.

Narrated Abu Hurraira RA: Allah’s Apostle SAWS said, “All my followers will enter paradise except those that refuse.” The illustrious companions of the Prophet SAWS asked, “O Allah’s Apostle SAWS! Who will refuse?” The Prophet SAWS said, “He who obeys me will enter paradise and he who disobeys me will be the one to refuse.” – Bukhari

Thus there can be only one type of Muslim – the Ahlul Hadith. How can there possibly be any other type? Can a man who professes to follow the religion of Islam and the Noble Prophet of Allah SAWS reject the sayings and traditions of Muhammad SAWS? Never!

Allah SWT the Lord of the Worlds swears by himself in Sura Al Nisa verse 65;

“But no, by the Lord, They can have No Faith, until they make thee judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls No resistance against thy decisions, but accept them with the fullest conviction.” – The Holy Quran

To be a Muslim is to be the Ahlul Hadith, take the path of the Prophet of Allah SAWS and discard the other, no matter how glorious the other path or its guide. Heed the call of the Ahlul Hadith! “Atiullaha wa atiurrasulu” / “Obey Allah & obey the prophet of Allah.”

The Islamic right of women to attend the salaah congregation at the mosque

Allah SWT has made the Salaah (namaz) mandatory on both men & women simultaneously. All preconditions are similar for both the man & the woman – including wudu (ablutions), ghusl (bathing) & taharath (ceremonial purity).

The action of prayer is also similar, so that a woman prays the same number of raka’a that a man does, the same number of sujood, the same number of ruku etc.

The practice of the women during the time of the Prophet SAWS

Narrated Ayesha RA: The women prayed the Fajr prayer in congregation with the holy Prophet SAWS. They would leave to their houses after the prayer when it was still dark wrapping themselves in sheets so that they could avoid being seen in the streets.- Muslim

Narrated Umme Salma RA: It was a practice of the holy Prophet SAWS to wait for some time after the prayer so women could first exit the mosque calmly. – Abu-Dawood

Narrated Ans RA: While we were with Allah’s Apostle SAWS he said, “When I start the prayer and intend to make it long (i.e. the qayaam), but the crying of a child reaches my ears I shorten the prayer because the mother of the child will be pained by her child’s crying.” – Bukhari & Muslim

There are a large number of sahih hadith that testify the presence of women at the mosque and their participation in obligatory salaah. Stopping women from going to mosques is a violation of their rights in the light of the Quran and Sunnah; will we not then desist?

The fitna is when women are displayed in their finery at our elaborate wedding celebrations and on the streets.

Is this the age of Information Technology?

This is a question every literate Muslim should ask of himself/ herself, or will the Muslim of the 21^st Century still accept the diktats of Mullahs without demanding verification?

Allah SWT says in the Holy Quran -- “Qul’Haatu burhaanukum in kuntum Swaadiqeen”

--“ Say, If ye are truthful bring forth your proof.”

Allah SWT through this age of technology has gifted this innocent umma learned scholars of hadith such as the eminent Sheikh Naseer-ud-din Al Albanee whose works are available at leading Islamic bookstores.
